While there is no denying the capabilities of the Motorola M-Series fixed car phones (the M900 and M930), installing a new M900 or M930 has proven a frustrating task for users purchasing the unit over the web from discount retails or eBay.
Many a buyer (or a professional installer hired by the buyer) will crack open the Motorola box only to discover that the antenna connection on their new Motorola M900 or M930 does not mate with a standard FME antenna. And since the Motorola M900 and M930 both require an external antenna to function, this is a significant problem.
Most do-it-yourselfers will scour the local Radio Shack in an effort to find an antenna connector or adaptor to bridge the two components. Believe it or not, most professional installers will do the same. The only difference in these scenarios is that a professional installer will likely charge you for a second installation while they source your connector (on account of you not having all the necessary components for installation). After checking every connector under the sun, you (or your installer) discover that no such connector exists in Radio Shack.
Just about the time that your frustration mounts, most buyers will contact Motorola directly, only to discover that after twenty minutes on hold with a customer service rep in India that Motorola has absolutely no clue how to solve this simple issue... this is where Car-kit USA comes in! So what’s the real answer you may ask?
For some unknown reason, Motorola Israel (the original manufacturers of the Motorola M-Series phones) engineered two separate antenna ports on the M900 and M930. In most cases about half of all M900/M930 units have a “gold” connecter mated to the end of the main control pad, and the other half a “silver” connecter mated to the end of the main control pad. Amazingly enough neither will mate up with an industry-standard antenna without a separate connector.
Exactly what connector is required to install a Motorola M900 or M930?
This question keeps our customer service department buzzing over at Car-kit USA. And the answer depends upon the color connector found on the end of your Motorola M900 or M930 main control pad. Should your M900 or M930 have the small “gold” connector you will require an SMA Male to FME Male Connector to mate your Motorola M-Series phone to a standard external antenna. Should your M900 or M930 have the small “silver” connector you will require a Mini UHF Male to FME Male Connector to mate your Motorola M-Series phone to a standard external antenna.
While we no longer carry the Mini UHF Male to FME Male solution for the “silver” end, we do offer a solution for customers needing to mate the “gold” end of their M900/M930 fixed car phone. One such solution is the Wilson Electronics part number 971119. Too few Handsfree sellers tell customers about this required connector prior to purchase. For this exact reason we only stock the M-Series phones with the “gold” ends, and included an SMA connector free of charge to our customers.
